Social injustice bears the seeds of unrest and dissatisfaction. Without discontent, there can be no progress. Discontent without action is nothing but futile complaining. We are dedicated to social empowerment, helping people find voice and power through solidarity. A better world through social justice and equality begins at the Kitchen Table.

"And if because of food your brother is troubled, then you are no longer going on in the way of love. Do not let your food be destruction to him for whom Christ went into death."
Romans 14:15

Practicing What we Preach

Announcing the Kitchen Table CSA:

Mary and I have decided the best way to illustrate what we are all about is to start our own CSA (Community Supporting Agriculture). If you are a resident of Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette or Winneshiek counties and are interested in becoming a member of our CSA, here's how it is going to work.

Starting April 15th, we will begin dropping off boxes for our members at central points in Monona, Postville and Waukon. We are asking for a $35 buy-in to help us defray opening expenses. Each delivery will come to you at a cost of $20

Each weekly box will contain a portion of the produce we have available from here on our farm, seasonal wild greens and berries, artisan breads baked here in our wood-fired stove, jams and jellies and a recipe or two to help you figure out delicious ways to enjoy your organic bounty. More from our week one newsletter here...

Week 2 - Shipping Friday morning, April 22

The weather has been anything but cooperative. We had almost 4 inches of snow on Monday so that kind of hurt our chances for foraging this week. However, we will be shipping more watercress this week, more nettles (they proved to be quite popular!), scallions from our greenhouse, fresh ground flour and a generous bag of Jeff's famous meat rub. The "Bub-a-dub Grub Rub" is really quite versatile. It can be used on all meats (including fish) before cooking, vegetables, in soups, salads and egg dishes. Once you try it, you'll wonder what you ever did without it!

We are also offering cooking classes to be held here at our farm. Cost of the class for members will be $10. Non-members may join in for $25. Our first class will be held at 10 AM on April 20th. This class will be "Basic Bread-making". A list of future classes will be available at that time. We can comfortably seat 6 - 8 students at a time, so it will be a first-come, first-served basis for these classes.

Our final box delivery will be Friday, September 16th. On that delivery day, one lucky customer will be selected at random to be the winner of a beautiful handmade quilt.
